They Hired an Intern Who Does the Same Job as Me When I Recently Asked for a Raise

Your Corporate Black Girl

Dear Nikki,

I am starting to feel stale and stagnant at my workplace. I’ve also noticed they hired an intern who does the same job as me when I recently asked for a raise *red flag*. My work is becoming scarce and I’m getting anxious. I don’t plan on staying long but my job search is not working (currently trying to revamp and revamp my cover letter and resume)
What should I do to not feel this anxious feeling? I know my work is good but I feel like they’ll hire an intern to not pay me more.

Nikki:

In order to stop feeling anxious you've got to change your perspective from the receiver of something potentially bad to someone that's taking control of their situation.

Ask for more work. Meet with your supervisor and tell them that you're interested in taking on new projects and or responsibilities now that the temp is up and running. Turn this into something that can potentially add value to your resume.

Ultimately, you're in control of how you feel and the steps you take to ensure that you're leaving with a good lasting impression and that you're equipping yourself with the best ammo for your next gig. It's always good to look for new opportunities and chances to learn something new in your current role, so don't miss out on that because you're in an awkward position at the moment.

Stay positive and positive things will happen. Be proactive and not reactive.

Good luck!
